Resident Spotlight: Sr. Catherine Waldron, OSU: Cougar Educator

In 2013, Regina Health Center (RHC) welcomed the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland following the order’s difficult decision to close the Saint Angela Center, which cared for its aging sisters. Sister Catherine Waldron (Sr. St. Ann), OSU, was one of the first 25 Ursuline sisters to be welcomed at Regina Health Center. Her sibling, Sister Angela Marie Waldron, OSU, was actually one of the first two to arrive, and went home to God shortly after her arrival. At RHC, Sr. Catherine continues to touch the lives of many with her gentle smile and willingness to reach out to others. Luckily for everyone at RHC, she has had much practice in perfecting her kind demeanor.

Some call him Elmer. Some Padre. Others call him Whiskey Bravo 8 Yankee Yankee Delta (WB8YYD.) In the world of amateur radio—also known as ham radio—that’s Father Elmer Marquard’s call sign. Fr. Elmer has been a resident at Regina Health Center (RHC) for five years and has been a ham radio enthusiast for nearly 40 years.

Jubilee Celebrations Abound

2016 was a year of parties and reflection at Regina Health Center (RHC) as seven vowed religious and clergy celebrated milestone years of service. The rich heritage of RHC stems from the many priests, sisters and brothers who have graced the halls since 1993, when the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine opened the doors of their Motherhouse in Richfield, Ohio. With opened arms, they welcomed retired and infirmed members of numerous religious communities, diocesan priests and lay persons in need of supportive services.

Regina Health Center in Top 1% in Ohio for Nursing Home and Residential Care Family Satisfaction

Regina Health Center scored in the top 1 percent of all Ohio nursing homes in the recently released Ohio Department of Aging (ODA) family satisfaction survey. With a score of 93.2 out of 100, Regina Health Center placed fifth statewide among 541 nursing homes for which data were available. Regina Health Center, located in Richfield, was the highest scoring nursing home in Northeast Ohio in this survey.

Holy-In-One Scores Another Victory

On June 19, more than 220 golfers gathered for the 18th annual Holy-In-One Golf Outing at the world-renowned Firestone Country Club. In addition to a day on the links, participants enjoyed a grilled lunch, buffet dinner, open bar, silent auction, live auction, door prizes and awards. All proceeds go toward the growing cost of caring for the religious, clergy and lay residents who call RHC home. In 2017, generous participants helped set a new record by raising more than $213,000!

Men’s Club Welcomes Sportscaster Dan Coughlin

The Men’s Club of Regina Health Center had a special guest speaker at its monthly meeting and luncheon in September—Dan Coughlin, longtime Cleveland sports reporter and anchor. During his “Half a Century of Cleveland Sports” talk, Dan shared personal stories of his high school days at St. Eds and Saint Ignatius and his time in the U.S. Army, before becoming a reporter.
